  • Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

Make spiritual rhythms a normal part of your life early.

Set the time and hold to it. When you miss it, just jump right back in. But make the effort and be persistent.

• Some even say reading to them at dinner when their mouths are full is helpful.
• Even a short devotional on the way to school can set the tone for the day.
• Pray often and for specific struggles and needs as they come up.

Have a plan to memorize a verse for the week or month. Discuss the truth and how to live by it constantly.

Initiate open and honest conversations. Again, when you start young, it becomes a normal thing. It’s easy to say but hard to do. Trust God to open those doors. Pray for opportunities of openness. Anticipate and initiate.

Let them see you live it. Let them see your Bible reading, prayer, handling issues inside and outside the home. Use real life situations to put your faith in action for them to see. Teach them forgiveness, grace but also sin and justice.

Meet a need in your community on your own or through the church. It will draw you closer and put feet to the faith you are teaching them about.

Take their real life situations, victories and failures to create moments of growth. Don’t shy away from them, but talk through how to process things as a Believer. Make notes of what they share, then follow up with them. “Hey how’s your friend Sam doing? You mentioned he had a rough day yesterday. Were you able to encourage him?” Think of what that would mean to your child!

Notice things outside and talk about the creativity of God. His divine nature and eternal power are evident everywhere.

It’s such a powerful tool. Incorporate it into drives, preparing for worship on Sundays. Find solid, Biblical songs and playlists.

• Children: Use fun, Biblically accurate, songs. Kids love repetition, so it might become old to adults. However, it will stick in their hearts and minds.
• Teens: Know what they are listening to especially as they get older. Explain messaging in music and examine lyrics together. There is good, wholesome music out there. Sometimes you just have to find it. Find meaningful worship music and songs that direct attention and focus to the Lord.

If they have a phone, text verses and prayers right to them. There are great apps for kids and teens. Begin a devotional series with your teen on the Bible App that you can read and track progress together. Kids can enjoy interactive stories via apps. There are kid friendly podcasts for Spiritual growth.

This creates a truly memorable experience.

Write them on their bathroom mirror, use notes in lunchboxes and backpacks.

Each child is different, which may require different ministry and leadership.

“Look at what God did!” And pray through struggles.

Have kids share things they are thankful for, things they prayed for. Write down prayers and how God answered them.
