Serve Others Together

As families journey deeper into discipleship, seeking to be like Christ, it’s important to imitate his example of service. In scripture we read that Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve others and give his life for them (Mt. 20:28). We strive for a life of service personally and in our families.

This fall, we encourage families to make an impact together in their neighborhoods and communities by serving others and demonstrating the love and care of Jesus.

Our Family Impact focus aims to mobilize every family at Willowbrook to serve their neighbors, their community and their city in their own way. Beginning on October 26th through he rest of 2025, we’d like to encourage families to pray, go and tell. Pray about who to serve and how to do it, go and serve with your entire family, and tell us how God used you to impact others so that we can celebrate how He is at work.

Here’s how your family can be a part:

1. PRAY

Pray as a family that the Lord will show you a need and how to meet it together. Persist in prayer until it’s clear what the Lord would have you do together. We encourage parents to take the lead and show their students what it’s like to seek the will of the Lord. He could show you so a number of ways to serve, from baking cookies for someone who needs the encouragement to tutoring kids with a local missions partner to providing childcare for a single mom in need. We have a list of possibilities below to get you going if you need a kickstart.

2. GO

Go out and serve. Put feet to your faith and boldly meet the need God showed you with love and care. Have conversations, find out more. 

3. TELL

Tell us about it. Visit our Family Impact page and click the button that says “We made an impact!”. Fill out the form, upload a picture and let us know how you served someone as a family. We can’t wait to hear about how your family has served and celebrate with our entire church. Our prayer is that families can develop a rhythm of service that will continue on into the new year and beyond.

Where You Can Serve

Provide food for others:

• Make some home baked goods/cards delivered to a neighbor to create a relationship or invite to church.
• Make some home baked goods/thank you cards/gift cards delivered to police or fire stations, or a hospital nurse’s station.
• Provide something homemade or make a coffee run for your teacher or administrative team at your kid’s school.
• Serve food with a local organization like For Life Ministries, Manna House or Downtown Rescue Mission.

Do some clean-up work:

• Pick up trash at a park or along a greenway.
• Help a neighbor with leaves, landscaping or yard work.
• Contact your school with any projects that would help their maintenance crew.

Care for the homeless:

• Make/buy blankets for local shelters and deliver them.
• Make care packages for the homeless. –
• Create a drive and collect food, toys, or clothes to donate to a local ministry partner.

Thoughtful encouragement:

• Make cards for hospital patients, local shelters, nursing homes, etc.
• Go simply visit and converse with a neighbor, encouraging them. Maybe invite them over to chat over coffee or a meal together. Ask about ways your can pray for them.
• Take flowers to a mom, a neighbor or a widow.
• Make cards or care packages for someone in the military.

Other ideas:

• Have a bake sale and donate the funds to (or buy items for) a local ministry partner.
• Paint a verse on rocks and hide them around town.
• Buy some candy for the worker at the register when you’re checking out at a store.
• Purchase the food for someone behind you at a drive-thru.
